Le troisième stage à Béziers en juin était  "Aventure dans la jungle en 3D" par Susan Else. 

Au-dessus était mon groupe pour la journée avec Susan au centre. 

Grâce à sa technique nous avons créé des arbres et des feuilles.  

C'était une journée de plaisir, pur et simple.  Susan était un prof extraordinaire et 

nous avons appris beaucoup de choses avec ses techniques. 

The third workshop in Béziers, last June was entitled "Adventure in the Jungle in 3D. 

We had a great day with Susan Else our teacher who was most inspired and interesting. 

Thanks to her technique we learnt how to create trees and leaves. 

It was a day of sheer pleasure.  Susan is a wonderful teacher from whom we learnt  

much about her tehniques and I am sure we will all benefit from her ideas.

  Moi, j'avais plusieurs problèmes avec ma machine, mais finalement j'ai terminé mon palmier

chez moi et j'ai trouvé un petit singe en bois pour le grimper.  

  I had a few problems with my machine, but was able to finish my palm tree at home. 

I found a wooden monkey I had been given about 40 years ago and had great fun

suspending him from my tree. 

Maintenant plusieurs mots au sujet de Susan Else. 

"Bien qu'elle n'ait jamais pensé devenir une artiste, Susan a grandi dans une famille d'artistes

qui ont formée sa vision des choses. 

Après s''être cherchée en "bricolant" avec des tissus et différents textiles pendant près de 20 ans,

elle a commencé a créer ses sculptures quiltées en 1999. 

Elle a fait plusieurs expositions de ses oeuvres et a participé à des expos itinérantes,

comme celle du Quilt National. 

Ses oeuvres font partie de plusieurs collections privées ou publiques dans tous les Etats Unis"

     Finally a few words about Susan who grew  up in a family of artists giving her a vision of art and painting. 

However she realised that she preferred working with fabric and began to create quilted sculptures around 1999. 

She has given several exhibitions in America and her works have been collected both publicly and privately.

 Recémment j'étais en France et je suis retournée à mon super groupe de patchwork à Béziers. 

C'était merveilleux de passer une journée parmi copines en faisant le patchwork!! 

On nous a dit de venir avec une photo d'une vue à copier, un cutter, des tissus de couleurs correspondant

à celle de la photo, un tissu du fond, et du fils et décorations et une machine à coudre. 

  I was back in France recently and was able to return to my wonderful patchwork group in Béziers. 

We were told to come with a photo to copy, some fabric in the same colours, a piece of material for

the background, a cutter and some thread or wool to embellish the project, and a sewing machine.

 Première étape c'était de couper le tissu dans les très petits morceaux avec un cutter. 

Après on a posé le confetti sur un fond pour copier la photo et on a couvert l'ouvrage avec

un morceau de tulle noir (fourni par le club) et on a fait le sandwich avec des épingles. 

Finalement on a fait du piqué-libre par machine et voilà!!

 The first step was to cut the various colours of material into very small pieces like confetti. 

These were then placed on the background material copying the orignal photo. 

Next a piece of black net ( given by the Club) was placed and pinned on to the background

fabric  and finally a bit of free motion quilting to hold the layers together.

  En septembre je vous ai raconté un challenge que que j'ai fait,

avec mes copines de Béziers. 

En plus, j'avais expliqué que chacune, avait commencé avec un "fat" japonais.

On l'a coupé en deux et on a donné une moitié à notre copine à gauche à la table.

Jusqu'à ce que tout le monde ait huit tissus de tailles différentes.

  In September I told you about a challenge in which I took part

with my French patchwork friends from Beziers. 

It started with a fat quarter of japanese fabric which we cut in two

and then passed on one half to the person on the left at the table.

We continued doing this until all the eight fabrics had been cut in various sizes. 

  Voici l'ouvrage de Annie-Claude qui a utilisé tous les tissus en faisant

deux jolis carrés. 

Les bordures en marron et orange n'étaient pas dans le challenge. 

Annie-Claude avait des doutes qu"elle pouvait réaliser ce challenge,

mais elle est bien réussi!

Here is the work of Annie-Claude who has used all the mateirials of

the challenge in ther two squares. The border fabric was not part

of the challenge. 

Annie-Claude was not sue if she was up to doing this challenge,

but her work shows she succeded really well.

  Voici l'ouvrage de Danièle.  Encore deux carrés, mais de formes différentes.

Elle était déçue que son tissu soit trop foncé, mais elle l'a bien mélangé

avec le petit montant de tissus clair.

Here is Danièle's contribution.  She was disappointed that she ended up

with rather dark pieces of material.

But her choice of design shows she has used the pale fabric to its advantage.

  Voici Marie-Claude et sa jolie fleur. 

L'assortiment de tissu se marie très bien avec ce dessin.

Here is Marie-Claude with her beautiful flower. 

The different fabrics here work really well with this design.

  Voici Maryse et ses oiseaux. 

Elle a commencé avec son tissu du fond qui l'a inspriée pour faire des oiseaux

sur les branches.

Here is Maryse with her birds.  Her background fabric inspired

her to appliqué a branch and several different birds, using the same

contrasting fabrics.

  Et puis elle a brodé sur le tissu de fond. 

And then she embroidered over her background fabric.

Après notre assemblée générale de Béziers Patchwork,  et pendant le vin d'honneur, on m'a presenté un cadeau magnifique. Comme j'ai déjà dit, jerentre en Angleterre en Septembre pour les raisons familiale.   Sans ouvrant la boite j'ai su que c'était magnifique parce que c'était marqué SOULEIADO, et j'adore leur tissus et le Musée à Tarascon. 

After our end of term meeting which finished with a glass of wine, I was presented with a beautiful gift. As I have already mentioned I am leaving France after 15 years and returning to England to be near my family.  Well, I knew it was going to be wonderful gift because the box was marked SOULEIADO and I love the Souleiado material and also the Museum in Tarascon. 

Quatre tasses et sou-coupes de porcelaine, imprimé avec plusieurs dessins de tissu Souleiado.  J'étais bouleversé!!

Four coffe cups and saucers printed with different Souleiado designs.  I was just overwhelmed, and what a wonderful gift to take to England with me.

En rentrant ce soir-là, j'ai pris ce photo pour montrer l'ouvrage que je fais en ce moment. J'ai trouvé deux paquets des chutes dans le magasin Souleiado à Tarascon et j'ai fait un couvre-lit. En ce moment je fais le quilting à la main. La richesse de couleurs provençale me plait beaucoup.

When I arrived home that evening I took a photo to show the quilt I am working on at the moment.  I bought two packets of scraps at the Souleiado Museum in Tarascon and sewed them together to make a bedspread which I am quilting at the moment. I really love the richness of the Provencale colours.
